A common question that I get is related to custom formulas, a custom formula is a formulation that you have either come up with or purchased from a food scientist.
Customer says "I am trying to find a manufacturing facility to run my custom formula, what do I need to provide to them?"
So you have a custom formula? That is great news, Anyone can offer the core 100 or so supplements that are available, however if you have a novel formula you can market it as the new revolutionary supplement. There are a few things you need to know.
Any reputable manufacture is going to ask for your formula (this is normal), First before anything else Ask the following questions:
Where will the product be manufactured
What certifications will the product have (NSF, GMP, organic, Kosher, Halal, Consumer Report, Made in USA)
What is the minimum for custom formulas (some normal minimums for capsules would be 300,000 capsules, for liquids it should be 3000 liters, for powders it should be 1000 lb.)
Can I have access to the Batch Record
How long will production take

If you find that the product will have good certifications, is manufactured in the United States, that they have an appropriate minimum and can get the manufacturing done within 8 weeks . Then move ahead!
Before you send over your formula be sure to get an NDA signed, An NDA is a Non disclosure agreement, This will guarantee that the manufacture cannot use your formula for any other customers than you. The last thing you want is for your hard earned custom formula to be mass produced for everyone and anyone.
After you have the NDA signed send over your formula, be sure to specify the following in your formula:
The serving size
The ingredient listing
if you want fillers or additives
if it must be Kosher
if it must be Hala
The color of product
The taste (for powder and liquid products only)
There are many more questions that any good manufacturing plant will ask, however this will be more than enough to get them started.
